The Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN)
The Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) is a global program implemented through UNDP; BIOFIN aims to reduce the wide gap in biodiversity financing.
Among its six innovative financial solutions, as well as the More Woman More Nature Program, this initiative promotes public-private partnerships (PPP), the development of the new the Payment for Environmental Services Program (PES) generation, and the diversification of its financing sources.
In this context, BIOFIN has supported the conceptualization, development, and implementation of the Huella del Futuro #Footprint4ourFuture program and our associated financial mechanisms. BIOFIN PNUD also supports the international launch of our campaign and will support international crowdfunding.
BIOFIN was launched in 2012 as a new global alliance to address the challenge of comprehensive biodiversity financing, under a methodology already developed in 30 countries around the world. Our mission is to support governments in building a strong case for increased investment in conservation, sustainable use, and equitable sharing of ecosystem benefits.
The United Nations Development Program
The United Nations Development Program is the United Nations’ development agency, mandated to integrate Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is dedicated to eradicating poverty, inequality, and combating climate change. We work with our extensive network of experts and partners in 170 countries to help nations build integrated and durable solutions for both people and the planet.
The UNDP program in Costa Rica works to facilitate collaborative inter-sectoral action and to support the design and implementation of public policies, based on knowledge instruments, digital transformation, and financing for development, which help accelerate recovery from the impact of COVID-19, the fulfillment of the SDGs, and the transition towards a more green and blue economy, with gender perspective and intersectional analysis for the empowerment of women and girls.
Huella del Futuro #Footprint4ourFuture also utilizes technical information and coordinates actions with various strengthening projects for Aqueduct Administrative Associations (ASADAs) managed by AyA / GEF / UNDP, as well as Productive Landscapes from MINAE / GEF / UNDP and, eventually, the Transition project to a green urban economy (scheduled to begin in July 2021).
